Japanese society for cancer of the colon and rectum (JSCCR) guidelines 2024 for the clinical practice of hereditary colorectal cancer.

Journal: International journal of clinical oncology

This publication presents the 2024 update to the Japanese Society for Cancer of the Colon and Rectum (JSCCR) guidelines for hereditary colorectal cancer (HCRC).

HCRC accounts for about 5% of colorectal cancers and is characterized by features such as:

  • Early onset
  • Multiple tumors
  • Cancers in other organs

These characteristics require different management from sporadic cases.

The updated guidelines were developed through systematic evidence review and expert consensus, including input from patient advocacy groups.

They summarize current knowledge on HCRC and provide clinical recommendations specifically for:

  • Familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP)
  • Lynch syndrome

The goal is to improve diagnosis, treatment, and surveillance strategies.
