This quasi-experimental study was conducted in rural Tangail District, Bangladesh, to evaluate the impact of a health education intervention on women’s knowledge and perception of cervical cancer and its screening.
Among 400 participants, mostly housewives aged 25-34, the intervention significantly improved awareness:
- Cervical cancer knowledge increased from 69.5% to 100%
- Screening awareness rose from 20.3% to 100%
- HPV vaccine awareness grew from 14.8% to 98.3% (all p < 0.001)
Additionally, cervical cancer screening uptake increased from 4.3% to 9.8% (p = 0.004).
The findings suggest that targeted educational programs can substantially enhance awareness and screening behaviors, potentially reducing cervical cancer mortality through earlier detection and intervention.
